Nilaveli beach is situated in Trincomalee city in district of north east area. It is situated somewhat far from the Colombo city about 257 km. There are many ways to reach this city you can choose bus, car, train etc. In my experience I think journey from Colombo to Trincomalee will take about 6.5 hours via Habarana road. Nlaveli beach hotel lies on 15 acres on landscaped garden with magnificent views along the beach with white sandy beaches to pigeon island. Pigeon island is like the heart of Nilaveli. This pigeon island is located around 1 km away from the Nilaveli beach. This land area surrounded by sea mainly consisted of two parts of islands. One is a small part and other one is larger in size. This name ''Pigeon'' is came this island due to the rock pigeons used to live there. In 2003 year this great island part is named as a national park in Sri Lanka. Earlier it was a sanctuary. In word war time this area was used by British army for shooting practises. There are boat services to Pigeon island. It is cost RS. 2000/= for a boat round to this island. We were lucky enough to see this Pigeon island. This island is consisted with corals make it difficult to move with out slippers. You can also have a bath in pigeon island. OK. That is about Pigeon island lets get back to Nilaveli beach. Nilaveli means open land of moon shine in Tamil language. This are is filled with tourists in months between April and October. That helps much to increase the economy for the people who make living in beach side. Another famous thing on this area is Kovil. Every visitor to this Trincomalee area do not forget to go to the Kovil. Not only local visitors it is also very famous among the international visitors also. This are also giving much experience for divers and wind surfers. Hotels around this area offers great and friendly service for you. So get lucky enough to watch this master piece of earth on your trip.
